Do you have an Affenpinscher?

The Affenpinscher is a small wiry haired dog that originated in Europe. Its initial use was as a ratter due to their small size and their quickness. The original Affenpinscher’s stood 10 inches at the shoulder, but through further refinement of breeding created the smaller yet version you see today qualifying them as a Toy Breed.

Affenpinscher name means “monkey” and has been nicked monkey-dog for its adorable monkey like expression. Other characteristics of the Affenpinscher are its undershot jaw, bushy head, beard, bushy eyebrows. It has a spunky bold nature. It often acts bigger and braver than its actual size and will not back down to another strange dog regardless of its size; however, the Affenpinscher generally gets along well with other dogs.

Affenpinscher’s are not the best dog to bring into a home with smaller more rambunctious children but they do well with older well behaved children. They are an ideal house dog and travel companion and do well in apartment life as longs as they get daily walks. The Affenpinscher makes for a great watchdog and are highly devoted and attuned to their owner.

Affenpinschers are highly intelligent which allows them to learn anything with the right motivation however require a lot of attention and can be trying during potty training.

  1. I'd have to learn how to spell and pronounce it first! It is cute, I don't think I've ever seen one of these before.

  2. Cool looking dog and alert looking. I've seen these dogs on animal planet but no one around here has anything like that. We're mostly a Heinz 57 variety dog owner in our little podunk town.
