Help a Dog Shelter or Rescue

Even if you are short on money, there are ways you can help dog shelters and rescues without emptying your pocket book and only requiring a little effort or time on your part. Here are some great ideas in ways you can help dog shelters and rescues:
  • If you have any internet/website skills, you can help a shelter keep their website up to date.
  • Help by offering your services to transport dogs to appointments, alternate shelters, rescue sites, foster homes, or adopted homes.
  • Volunteer your time to take dogs out on walks, train, and or socialize them.
  • Organize fundraisers or help with them to get much-needed funds to keep shelter(s) running smoothly.
  • If you are a groomer, trainer, veterinarian, lawyer, salesperson, etc that can find a nitch in ways of helping a dog shelter or rescue, donate your expertise to make a big difference.
This is just a few examples of how you can help. Contact your local shelter or rescue group for more information on how you can get involved.

  1. When our shelter gets full I take one or two of the cats or dogs and care for them until they can find them homes. You are right about the fact that helping out doesn't always mean shelling out of pocket.

  2. My girlfriend won't let me go back to the shelter to help out. She said she would do it. I can't help it, I see those dogs and I just want to take them home. It's not like I bring them all home. We only have 4, oh yeah and the 3 that the last one gave birth too right after I brought her home.

  3. I love working at the shelter in our city as a volunteer. You think you are giving ---but the dogs give back so much more. Just the look in their eyes when they see you coming--they know they are going to get to go outside for a fun walk! Plus, I lost 9 lbs so far from the exercise!!
