The Labrador Retriever is a friendly and eager to please breed of dog. It first originated on the Canadian Coast as an angler’s dog and was used to retrieve lost nets, rescue men who fell overboard, haul and guard the daily catch, and even pull boats to the shore.

Water retrieving and game hunting became the Labrador Retriever’s specialty in the United States and evolved into excellent retrievers and gun dogs. It wasn’t long after that they became a family favorite for a household pet.

  1. My girlfriend had a golden lab and she was a terrific dog. She was great with the kids, very protective of them when strangers were around. If I were looking to get another dog, this would be the breed I would be looking for.
