Fleas and Ticks On your Dog
It is coming that time of year again when fleas and ticks can be a real nusance to your dog if not even cause serious illness. It is important to know how to protect your dog from these annoying and sometimes fatal little pest!
Ticks
Make sure to check your dog regularly for ticks after being outdoors. Ticks can be dangerous to your pet if not properly removed. To remove a tick from your dog’s skin, pull it straight out with tweezers. Do not twist the tick. When you twist the tick, the mouth of the tick can break off being left remaining on your dog’s skin. If left unattended, infection will develop. If you do break the mouth off the tick and are unable to dislodge it yourself, take your dog to the vet and have it removed immediately. If you are uncomfortable in the removal of ticks from your dog’s skin, let your vet do it.
Fleas
Fleas can be impossible to control once they have taken a hold of your dog and have invaded your home. Preventive measures are the best bet in flea protection for your pet and your home. Flea infestation left unattended with will cause infection in your pet. If you have small children in your home, fleas will attack them as well leaving sores that can lead to infection and illness.
There are many flea and tick control products available to use for your dogs care, from preventive to flea control. There is no reason no member of your family, dog included, should suffer due to flea infestation.

Fleas are something I don't want to have to deal with. I live in an apartment and have a small dog. Thanks to Doggie-Corral I found just the things I need to keep my pooch clean.
ReplyDeleteFleas and ticks make my dog uncomfortable as well as putting him at risk. After having him out for a walk in the park, I check him over from one end to the other. He deserves that consideration.
ReplyDeleteI took my dog for a walk in the woods last summer and a couple of days later I found a tick very near her collar. I thought I knew how to remove it but I pulled it off without getting the head. I took her to the vet and her removed the rest of it. From now on, I'm going to let him take care of things like this. I'm sure it was because I was so nervous.
ReplyDeleteI rescued a puppy that had been abandoned on a country road. The poor thing was being eaten alive with fleas and ticks. I took him to my vet to make sure he was taken good care of. It broke my heart to hear him wimper in discomfort. Some people are so thoughtless when it comes to animals.
ReplyDeleteUgh! This is one great thing about Wisconsin winters!!! Fleas and ticks are gone until spring...then look out. We make sure our 2 dogs are protected.
