Interesting Dog Facts

Do you know where the dog descended from? Interestingly enough dogs descended from a Miacis. A Miacis is a weasel-like mammal that was around about 40 million years ago.

The dogs we own and see nowadays are most likely a direct descendant from a small grey wolf.

Have you heard of the job dogs had during World War II? Russians put mines strapped onto the dogs backs to complete suicide missions between the tracks of the German tanks.

Man has 5,000,000 smelling cells whereas a Fox Terrier has 147,000,000 and even higher is the “sniffer” dog, Alsation, which has 220,000,000.

You probably know that the average dog lives to be about 15 years old. Guess how old the longest recorded dog lived? If you guessed 29 years and 5 months you are correct! The type of dog is a Queensland “heeler.”

Which two dogs do you think are the tallest? If you said the Irish Wolfhound and Great Dane you would be absolutely correct.

If you have been bit by a dog you know that they have a lot of pressure to bite. An average dog’s mouth can bit with 150 to 200 pounds of pressure per square inch. If you think that is a lot, some dogs can even bite up to 450 pounds of pressure!

What human age do you think a one year old dog is physically as mature as? The answer is 15 years old.

You will need to put papers down until your puppy is 4 months old during the night as your puppy cannot control his/her bladder overnight until that age.

Does your dog turn circles before lying down? Probably- because in the wild this is an instinctive action that turns long grass into a bed.
