Do you have a German Shorthair Pointer?

Since the 19th century the German Shorthair Pointer has been around. This type of dog was bred for hunting.

You will see floppy ears on this type of dog. The muzzle is long, strong and broad. This will help when game that weighs a lot is hunted and caught. The German Shorthair Pointer has strong legs. Brown eyes are common. Some German Shorthair Pointer dogs have yellow eyes which are not wanted by most people.

Perhaps you did not realize that German Shorthair Pointers have webbed feet.

The GSP has a fantastic temperament; intelligent, bold and affectionate is what most of these dogs are.

The dog’s coat is short and flat. There is a dense undercoat that is protected by stiff hairs so that the coat is resistant to water. GSP will stay warm when the weather is cold due to their coat.

If you have a GSP or are thinking of getting this wonderful family pet, make sure you have a lot of space for the dog to run. You must have time to work with this bred of dog. If you do not work hard with this dog and let him/her run you may find yourself with a dog that is hyperactive-like as well as behaviors you do not want. This type of dog may try to escape a lot if he or she is not getting enough exercise. Your dog will be happiest as a family pet as well as a hunting dog.
