Dog’s Proper Nutrition

A healthy, balanced diet is fundamental in your dog’s well being. Before purchasing just any old dog food, take a little time and research the companies that make them. Check to see what ingredients they use and the percentage of fillers they use. A high quality dog food has very little if any filler materials added to make the dog supplement. After doing your research, you may find you’re your dog may not like a particular brand, so make sure you have a few options. There is no sense buying a dog food your dog will not eat just based on quality alone. They have taste buds to you know and can be finicky! .

Your veterinarian can also give you a few suggestions and possibly samples to try out on your dog first! You will know when you found the right dog food for your dog. After a few weeks your dogs coat should become shiner and his/her overall health should appear more vibrant. If you see your dogs’ coat begins to dull, your dog becomes sluggish, or begins to pick at its food, you need to change diet again. Consult your veterinarian for nutritional advice, especially if you notice any changes in your pet’s health and always be sure your dog has access to plenty of fresh, clean water.

  1. I was pretty careful about buying a good dog food and was surprised that he was gaining weight. Come to find out, my son was feeding him a couple of extra times a day because he heard me telling someone that the dog was eating healthy. I guess to an 8 year old, that means lower portions and he was worried that the dog might be getting hungry so he was supplementing my feeding with 2 of his own.

  2. That picture is adorable. He seems to be saying, "Don't even think about touching it!" I was appalled at the difference in the ingredients when I checked the bags at the store. Some of those manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves for even calling it dog food. The list of ingredients sounded more like pig slop! No offense to the pigs!

  3. Cute dog. Kind of reminds me of our Shep when he was a pup. I was always particular about the dog food I bought back then. Shep is 11 years old now and I'm still picky about his food. More than ever I need to make sure he is eating right to maintain his health.

  4. I think people would be dismayed at the contents of the cheaper dog foods if they just took time to read the labels. You can't believe what they print on the front of the bag. It's the small print on the back you need to study. As with all food, the list is in the order of most to least amount of that ingredient. When meat and vegetables comes in at the end, it's not what you want to buy for your dog. Cheap doesn't always work for you and it doesn't always work for your dog.
