Your Questions Answered About Your Dog

We will answer questions you may have about your dog. If you have a question you would like answered, please leave it in the comment section. As always, ask your veterinarian for any important information concerning your dog’s health.

Why do some dog’s chase cars? Dogs that like to chase cars have learned that cars run away. This is reinforced every time a dog chases the car away.

How can I teach my dog to catch a ball?
If you are trying and trying to teach your dog to catch a ball without success, try throwing a soft piece of fabric or other soft item. Some dogs find this easier. Once your dog gets good at catching the piece of fabric, move onto trying to catch a ball.

Why shouldn’t I stare directly into the eyes of a strange dog? Many dogs take staring directly into the eyes as a challenge and you may encourage him or her to bite you.

A family member in my house is allergic to dogs, do I have to get rid of my dog?
You can try bathing your dog every week. Your dog will shed less dry skin by doing so. It may help to add a teaspoon of cooking oil to your dog’s meal. (Extra virgin olive oil is the best cooking oil to use.)

Each week we will answer dog questions to give you more helpful information.

  1. Thank you for posting this. I have told my son NOT to stare dogs in the eyes. Now maybe that someone else has said it--he may listen!
