Puppy Information

If your dog has had puppies, there are a few things you should know about the new puppy arrivals.

Each puppies’ eyes will not open until the puppies are 10 to 15 days old. When your puppies are about four weeks old then it’s vision should be complete.

Your puppies should stay near their mother as well as other brothers and sisters to stay warm. Your puppies will be born blind, deaf and they will not have any sense of smell.

If you are thinking of selling or giving away the puppies, please wait at least eight weeks before separating the puppies from their mother. The mother will teach the puppies how to get along with other dogs as well as teach them not to bite.

When choosing a puppy, the most confident puppy may make the worst pet as he or she sees himself/herself as the pack leader.

Make sure new puppy owners give their puppy its own sleeping “den”. Suggest that they can use a dog crate or even a cardboard box. The puppy will feel much more secure. Ignore the whining the first few nights when it’s bedtime. If you come running to the rescue it will only encourage the whining. Otherwise, tell new owners to plan to sleep with the puppy the first few nights. The new puppy is taken away from its mother and siblings as well as taken to an entirely new house. Most people would be frightened by this as a youngster as well.

Healthy food, plenty of water, exercise and vet appointments will get the puppy started off on the right track.
