Dog Routines:Bathroom & Walking

Dogs truly like routines. It actually comes natural for a dog to want a routine. Therefore, you should stay consistent when it comes to training your dog. When you stay consistent you will show your dog that you are the one that is in control. Consistency also shows your dog what his or her family role is within your household.

Throughout the day you should have some time with your dog. For example, of course your dog needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. You should at least have four times per day your dog can go outside to go to the bathroom. Keep the times separated apart for instance, every four hours, if you are home. When you take your dog outside to go to the bathroom always use the same phrase such as, “Go outside to potty!”

You should also take your dog out for walks once or twice a day. Walking dog routines benefit you and your dog greatly. You will expel some of the energy your dog has and you both will get exercise. Get your hearts moving to stay healthy! When planning your daily walks, make sure you do it at the same time each day. Two excellent times to walk are in the morning before you have to go to work or right before/after breakfast if you stay at home. The second walk may be right when you return from work or after dinner. If you are 15 minutes or more late for your walk, your dog will know this as dogs can sense the variations.

When taking your dog out to go to the bathroom or for a walk, make sure he/she is warm enough with a dog jacket, dog sweater and dog boots.
