Allergy issues with your Dog? Allergy-Proof your Home

Did you know that one day you may not have a allergy to something, yet the next day you can develop an allergic reaction to it? It is true. Allergies can creep up on you. When an allergy interferes with a passion in your life, like your dog, this can be heart breaking if you do not know how to lessen the risks of allergy attacks in your home. Here are some tips that will lower allergic reactions such as watery eyes, stuffy nose, and sneeze attacks to your four-legged buddy.

Bathe your dog regularly. If bathing your baby personally is too intense on your allergies, have a professional groomer scheduled to give your dog a thorough bath at least once a month.

Invest in a HEPA vacuum cleaner and use it daily. Dust first all counters or areas where dog hair or dander may lay, and follow up with a thorough vacuuming. Vacuum furniture as well.

Have a safe haven. Keep your dog out of one room of your home, so when you have days where the allergy symptoms are more intense, you have a get away. The bedroom is an ideal room to make off limits that way you can get a peaceful nights sleep.

  1. I didn't know that dogs had dander until I started having the sniffles whenever I was at home. It took a while to narrow the problem down to the dog and then it took allergy tests to pinpoint the exact cause. The hepa filters helped a lot. I'm just glad I didn't have to get rid of him all together.

  2. I totally agree with you. If the dog is kept clean and his bedding and area are kept clean, very few people would have allergic reactions to their dogs.

  3. I'm glad we don't have allergies at our house. We have 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bird. My kids are allergic to school and chores but I don't think the animals can be blamed for that.

  4. We have a Boxer and thank God, no one in the house has allergies, except the dog. Seasonal changes will have her sneezing with watery eyes and a runny nose. We've learned over the years how to help her through these trying times.

  5. Allergies make you miserable. If it's your pet, it may make you feel worse, since most pets like to be near their owners. The suggestions you gave were all right on the money. Keeping the pet out of one room was a good idea. It makes sense that it should be the bedroom. My heart goes out to those who deal with this on a regular basis.

  7. I also read that you should give your dog a dab of olive oil each day in his/her food. Plus, bathe your dog once a week as well as brush outside. Helps!
